Frequently Asked Questions

Why book with Northwestwalks?

We are a family business owned and operated by Dean and Corinna Halsall. We started operating walking holidays with John Halsall (now retired) over 20 years ago. We are committed and proud to provide a personal, professional and well-organised service, providing walking holidays to individuals and groups, with many returning satisfied customers. We have a good working relationship with accommodation owners. We are one of the few companies with original owners who have built their excellent reputation over the last twenty years.

What kind of accommodation do you use?

Accommodation is provided in carefully selected walker-friendly B&Bs, Guest Houses, small Hotels, and Inns along the route. Nearly all rooms are ensuite or have private bathrooms. Information will be provided in the holiday information on our website if the ensuite is not available each night. We aim to book accommodation directly on or within a short walk of the route, but in a few locations, accommodation is limited, so we may have to book off-route accommodation. If this is the case, we will provide transport at no extra cost.

Can I book extra nights/rest days?

For guided holidays, you can request extra nights accommodation at the start and end of the holidays.

For self-guided holidays, you can request extra nights at your preferred locations along the route. We can advise you on the most popular locations if required.

Do I need to book any accommodation at the start of the trail the night before I start walking or at the end after I’ve finished walking?

No, the holiday price includes accommodation the night before you start walking and at the end of the holiday when you have finished.

Do you move our luggage between each overnight stop?

All our holidays include accommodation to accommodation luggage transfer. This is normally 1 bag per person, weighing no more than 20kg. The exact weight is provided on each holiday webpage. Please note if your bag is overweight or you bring extra luggage, the transfer agent will charge you directly. We provide further information with your holiday documentation.

What meals are provided?

Your holiday includes breakfast each morning.

Where can I purchase packed lunches?

Packed lunches are readily available to purchase from overnight accommodation or the local shop as you walk the route. This way you have a good choice of what to eat.

Where can I purchase evening meals?

Evening meals are normally available at the local pub or restaurant when available. If neither is available, your accommodation will offer evening meals. We will provide information in your holiday documentation.

What is included in our holiday pack?

For self-guided holidays we include the following in your holiday pack.

  • A guidebook and route map *
  • Detailed instructions to find your accommodation in each location and information for where to eat in the evening.
  • An overview route description and holiday information document.
  • Mountain Rescue advice document.
  • Luggage labels to attach to your suitcase.

* Your holiday includes one guidebook and route map per person in a single occupancy room or per two people sharing a double or twin room.

When you have paid your balance we will email your documentation to you and post your guidebook(s), route map(s) and luggage label(s) to your home address or first nights accommodation if you prefer.
