Lake District Back Sail

Tour of the Lake District Self Guided Walking Holidays

The Tour of the Lake District is a 93 mile circular route through some of the best landscape in the Lake District National Park. The route is primarily one of valleys and passes following ancient footpaths and bridleways once used by shepherds, and traders and their packhorse ponies. However the guide book also gives you the option to follow high-level alternatives over high peaks, such as Scafell Pike and Helvellyn.

Walking is unquestionably the best way to see this celebrated landscape and unsurpassed scenery. There is something on this route for everyone, the busy little towns and villages in central Lakeland, the quieter western fells, pleasant valleys, and mountains dominating the sky line.

Our Tour of the Lake District holidays are independent walking holidays. They are available from spring through to autumn, and you can start any day of the week and add rest days if required.

Each night on the trail you stay in a different location in prebooked selected accommodation, with full English breakfast provided. Your luggage is collected daily and moved to your next accommodation. We can also arrange to transfer you with your luggage if you want to take a day off from walking. The transfer service is also available to non walking family and friends who would like to tour the Lake District but prefer not to walk.

A comprehensive guide book describes the route but it is not way marked and therefore map and compass reading skills are essential. This is a challenging route in parts, especially if you choose the high level options, so before you embark on this holiday you must be physically fit, and equipped to meet it.
