Lake District Guided Weekend Holiday

Walking is unquestionably the best way to see this celebrated landscape and unsurpassed scenery. Visitors have been coming to the Lake District since the early 19th century when William Wordsworth published his guide to the Lakes. For the past 50 years walkers have taken inspiration from Wainwrights Pictorial Guides to the Lakeland Fells.

For the weekend we have planned two high level walks. On Saturday we walk to the summit of Helvellyn (950m/3,117ft), Englands third highest mountain. Our route is via Grisedale Tarn and Dollywaggon Pike. From Helvellyn there are superb views of the imposing Striding Edge and across to Patterdale. From Helvellyn we descend to Thirlmere before returning to Grasmere. On Sunday we walk to the top of Helm Crag (405m/1,328ft) and follow the ridge over Gibson Knott (420m/1378ft) to Calf Crag (537m/1762ft). We return to Grasmere via Far Easdale.

This weekend break is based at the Red Lion Hotel, which is located in the centre of Grasmere village, in the heart of the Lake District. Accommodation is on a dinner bed and breakfast basis and all rooms are ensuite. Accommodation has been booked for two nights but additional nights can be booked if required.
